Container from Norway to the flood victims in Somalia
Kafaalo Welfare Organization has sent a container consisting of clothes and shoes to the flood victims in Somalia. We all have by now seen and heard it on the news about the severe floods that engulfed the already poverty and war stricken country of Somalia.
The floods have come about as a result of heavy rains which has lead to the rivers of Shabelle and Jubba overrunning their banks. The areas in which these rivers are situated in are populated by many villages which are the main farmlands of the country. This disaster has led to many deaths by drowning caused by the heavy floods which has reached far into the country side. Incidents have occurred of crocodiles eating many people who have been caught in these floods. These floods have caused thousands of people to flee their homes and living in a very precarious lifes.
When Kafaalo saw all these heartbreaking scenes and this humanitarian disaster, a decision was made to help as quickly as possible. The idea of the container originated from the members of Kafaalo. These displaced victims leave their homes to safety carrying with them nothing. Kafaalo decided to help by sending a container of clothes and shoes.
It took Kafaalo 2 weeks to fill the container after many hours of hard work in collecting the clothes. The container was very large and was 40 feet in size it was finally ready to be shipped to Somalia and on the 4th of January 2007 it was removed from its’ parking place to be shipped two days later.
Thank you
Kafaalo would like to say “thank you” to the people who participated in the project either by lending a hand or giving moral support. Kafaalo is truly grateful to its’ members who worked really hard to make this project a big success. Kafaalo would like to also thank the individuals who came up with this idea of the container. It was something which Kafaalo had never done before but proofed to be a big success. A last thanks and gratitude goes out to Tawfiq mosque in Oslo which had helped with this project in a big way.Last Updated ( Saturday, 13 June 2009 14:49 )
